After the autopilot fails, a SpiceJet flight headed for Nashik returns to Delhi.

On Thursday morning, shortly after takeoff, a SpiceJet flight headed for Nashik returned to Delhi due to an issue with the autopilot system, the airline said in a statement.

A DGCA official stated that SpiceJet aircraft SG-8363, which had departed from Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport at 6:54am, had been returned back to the nation's capital midway through the flight due to an issue with the autopilot. The spokesman said, "The flight arrived safely in Delhi."

"On September 1, 2022, SpiceJet B737 aircraft that were supposed to fly from Delhi to Nashik turned around and flew back to Delhi due to an issue with the AutoPilot system that the flight crew encountered. The aircraft landed normally in Delhi, and passengers departed without incident, according to a SpiceJet representative.

The incident is the most recent in a string of mid-air mishaps that have dogged SpiceJet lately. Currently, SpiceJet operates no more than 50% of its flights in accordance with the Directorate General of Civil Aviation's directives (DGCA).

As a result of the airline's planes being involved in at least eight cases of technical malfunction between June 19 and July 5, the regulator had in July imposed a restriction on the airline's flights for a period of eight weeks.
