At Mumbai Central Station, the country's first pod retiring rooms are on display.
In a first, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has launched the "pod concept" of bed-sized retiring rooms at the Mumbai Central railway station, in partnership with the Indian Railways.
A pod hotel, also known as a capsule hotel, is a type of hotel that has a large number of small, bed-sized rooms known as capsules. These hotels give customers who do not require or cannot afford the larger, more expensive rooms offered by traditional hotels an economical, basic overnight stay.
The one-of-a-kind facility features 48 pods divided into three categories: 30 traditional, seven ladies-only, ten private, and one for those with disabilities. The private pod, like the traditional and ladies-only pods, will have a private space within the room, whilst the differently-abled pod will comfortably house two guests with space for free wheelchair movement.
According to the IRCTC, rates will range from about 999 per person for 12 hours to 1,999 per person for 24 hours, depending on requirements.
