Rahul Gandhi receives a new passport and will visit the US on Monday.

During his week-long visit to the USA, Rahul Gandhi is likely to speak to Indian Americans, engage with Wall Street professionals, and speak with college students.

Two days after a Delhi court gave its approval, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi obtained a new regular passport on Sunday, sources said.

The former president of the House is scheduled to fly to San Francisco in the United States on Monday night as part of a three-city tour after relinquishing his old diplomatic passport that was provided to him when he was a member of parliament.

Following his conviction and two-year imprisonment by a Gujarat court in a defamation case over his Modi surname remark, Rahul Gandhi was disqualified as an MP in March.

According to the sources, Gandhi received his passport in the afternoon after receiving assurances from the passport office that it would be provided to him on Sunday.

The BJP politician Subramanian Swamy, who filed the complaint in the National Herald case, objected, and a Delhi court on Friday gave Gandhi a no-objection certificate for the granting of a "ordinary passport" for three years instead of the standard 10-year duration. In the case, Gandhi is a defendant.

Gandhi will meet with lawmakers and think tanks in Washington DC after speaking at a news conference in San Francisco and engaging with students at the esteemed Stanford University.

Swamy is permitted by the Delhi court to respond to Rahul Gandhi's request for a passport.

During his week-long visit to the USA, the head of the Congress is also likely to speak to Indian Americans, engage with Wall Street executives, and engage with college students. On June 4, he is scheduled to end his journey with a public event in New York. The discussion would take place in New York's Javits Center.

The National Herald case was still pending at the time of the complainant's cross-examination in the pre-charge evidence, and the court noted that Gandhi had been routinely attending in person or through his lawyer and had not slowed down the proceedings.

An ordinary passport, which is often given to adults, has a 10-year validity period.

As a result of Rahul Gandhi's disqualification following his conviction in a defamation case, in which he was given a two-year prison sentence, the Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency in Kerala was declared empty on March 24. Rahul Gandhi had previously represented the area in the Lok Sabha.

In anticipation of an appeal, the House leader's sentence has been suspended.
