Rain in Kerala: Yellow alert in 9, four districts have school holidays

In Kerala, the rain fell heavily again on Tuesday, according to Thiruvananthapuram. According to the India Meteorological Department, isolated areas may likely experience severe rain (7–11 cm in 24 hours) until Thursday.

Nine districts, including Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod, received a yellow alert on Tuesday.

The Kerala coast from Vizhinjam to Kasaragod may experience high waves of 2.8 to 3.3 metres on Tuesday until 11.30 p.m., according to the National Center for Oceanographic Research (INCOIS). Fisherman have been advised not to venture into the seas off the coast of Kerala, Karnataka, and the Lakshadweep region till July 28.

A vacation in 4 districts

In light of the heavy rain, a holiday has been proclaimed for Tuesday for educational institutions in four districts.

The districts of Wayanad, Kozhikode, Kannur, and Malappuram are exempt from workdays.

Professional colleges and schools accredited by ICSE/CBSE would also be closed on Tuesday, the district collectors announced in separate releases.

In the meantime, in the Kasaragod district's taluks of Vellarikundu and Hosdurg, a holiday for schools has been declared. The two taluks' colleges won't observe the holiday.

Nonetheless, the PSC tests that were already planned will go ahead.

The administrators of educational institutions have been instructed to make up the hours missed because of the holiday later.

It has been urged to students to avoid standing water.

Dr. Renu Raj, the Wayanad district collector and chairperson of the district disaster management authority, issued orders on Monday prohibiting mining operations and construction site operations involving earthmovers in the district, effective immediately, as the weather forecast called for significant rainfall in the coming days.

According to a press statement, the injunction will be in place until further notice in this regard. According to the statement, clearing streams, rivers, and drainages won't be prohibited in order to promote the efficient flow of water and safeguard the safety of residents living along to the banks.

The Mananthavady-Kaithakkal road's protective wall was harmed when the soil collapsed in as a result of the severe rain, hence the roads department barred heavy vehicle travel through the area. According to a roads assistant engineer communiqué, heavy vehicles should detour through the 4th Mile.
