On Thursday, India takes on South Africa in the opener of a five-match T20I series.

During India's first training session, Umran Malik enjoyed an extended period, but it was his colleague Arshdeep Singh who looked far more good at the nets, which included improving his yorker skills. However, with Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Harshal Patel, and Avesh Khan leading the race, both juniors may have to wait for their turn. When it comes down to it, Arshdeep appears to be a stronger option than Umran. The evening workout for the Indian team, led by Rahul Dravid and Paras Mhambrey, was as tough as it could be.

While Umran, who is known for his rapid bowling, bowled as quickly as he could, Rishabh Pant didn't waste any time in smashing him with similar severity.

Pant's intent with the willow grew more fierce as he fired his thunderbolts faster.

Arshdeep bowled a short period before going through a session with bowling instructor Mhambrey, during which he was seen practising blockhole deliveries.

For the middle stump yorker, Mhambrey kept a baseball mitt (gloves) on the front crease, exactly on the middle stump line, and an energy drink bottle around the tramline for the wide yorker.

As part of the match simulation, Arshdeep was intended to hit the two 'props.'

"Theek hai?" he'd ask Mhambrey, who would advise him to concentrate on line rather than length.

So, one of the two bowlers was the better bowler? In comparison to the Jammu speedster, Arshdeep seems to have a more diverse skill set.

Another factor that suggests Punjab's player is slightly ahead of Umran is training time.

Fast bowlers in harsh conditions usually don't go all out in practise and instead strive to bowl just enough to keep up with the rhythm.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar, the team's captain, only bowled for 15 minutes.

Similarly, Harshal Patel, who is also a certainty, was rested on the day, along with Yuzvendra Chahal and Hardik Pandya, two sure-fire first-XI hopefuls.

The players that bowl more at the nets before the game are more likely to be benched.

DK works on his lap scoop. With Pant as KL Rahul's deputy, Dinesh Karthik may not be a sure thing coming into the opening game, but his brief net session was entertaining.

Karthik, who is 36 years old, knows what he has to work on and has asked throwdown experts Nuwan, Daya, and Raghu to send him deliveries that allow him to play lap scoop and reverse lap scoop over short fine and short third man fielder.

According to the DDCA groundsmen, there would be dew after 8 p.m., but the team did not practise with wet balls like they did at other times.
