Report: 215 pounds is the largest female python ever captured in Florida.

On their way to a meeting with a male snake, a group of researchers recently came across the largest Burmese python ever collected in Florida, Her final meal was an entire white-tailed deer, said the researchers.

Researchers used a male "scout" to find the female Burmese python, which weighed 215 pounds (98 kilograms) and was over 18 feet (5 meters) long when it was finally trapped.

Ian Bartoszek, a wildlife biologist and the program's environmental science project manager, was quoted as saying that the researchers used radio transmitters implanted in male "scout" snakes to follow python movements, mating behaviors, and habitat consumption.

According to Mr. Bartoszek, the Burmese female python was around the height of a giraffe when stretched out vertically when she was slain.

The group utilized a scout snake named Dionysus, or Dion for short, in a section of the western Everglades. When researchers discovered her, she was camped out in the Florida Everglades vegetation.

At the western edge of the jungle, the male python Dion came to a stop. The team discovered him with the biggest female they had ever seen, and Mr. Bartoszek stated, "We knew he was there for a reason."

The largest male python ever discovered there was 16 feet and 140 pounds, but the female python is thought to have been up to 20 years old when she was captured, according to the news.

Researchers have been python hunting for more than ten years in an effort to preserve native species in the Florida environment.
