“In this world of constant visual stimulation, we have lost sight of what makes humans real in relationships — their ability to connect with another person.  We want you to be swooned by personality, and not by looks,” says co-founder and CEO, Tanvi Gupta.

Tanvi launched SwoonMe in 2021 along with Rishabh Gupta, her brother, fellow Co-founder, and SwoonMe’s CTO. SwoonMe is headquartered in the US, but the app is currently available in both the US and India on both iOS and Android platforms.

Tanvi was 16 years old when she moved to the US for higher education. She has an MBA degree from Marquette University in Milwaukee. She then worked on Wall Street with Morgan Stanley and CitiGroup investment banks. And later, she joined Facebook to work on Messenger and Instagram, after meeting her husband and moving to the Bay Area.

It was when the COVID-19 pandemic hit that she decided to move on from Facebook and use her experience and expertise to build her own product that would transform the online dating space.

The app targets Millennials and Gen-Zers. It strives to not only provide a safe dating experience, but also one that can be fun and memorable. To set up their profiles, users are required to create an avatar that is built off a selfie/photo. This is what will be shown in place of their photos. Since the app prioritizes voice interactions and games between users, this brings in a fun visual element.

Users also record a “Sound Bite” — a short voice recording that is placed on their profile, giving others a chance to get to know them a bit. There are also voice notes and icebreaker games, which are one-on-one voice interactions to deepen the connection between two singles.

It is only after users play two rounds of icebreaker games with each other that they get the option to reveal their photo. This really gives people the opportunity to connect at a deeper level before they see each other.

SwoonMe recently raised $1 million dollars in its second seed round, and the app is gaining a lot of traction in both countries. There are some interesting features that are still in the works, such as a monthly subscription model with premium features such as being able to send flowers or food to another ‘Swooner’ while ensuring user privacy. The team also plans on introducing Avatar-based video calling, and various means of profile verification to maximize safety for all users.

Furthermore, the engineering team, headed by Rishabh Gupta, is working towards making SwoonMe a highly-immersive dating experience through virtual dating components. The platform is essentially poised to be the next-gen dating platform in Metaverse.

If you’re on the lookout for someone special in your life, try SwoonMe, and as their tagline goes, you may “#Hear The Spark”.
