Priyanka Chopra, the actress, organized a pre-Oscars event in Beverly Hills, California, to honor South Asian talent. Mindy Kaling, Kumail Nanjiani, Bela Bajaria, Maneesh K. Goyal, and Shruti Ganguly were among her peers who attended the event.
The Academy Awards will be placed on March 27. (28th morning in India). Priyanka has previously served as an Academy Award presenter. She wore a beautiful black saree to the ceremony on Wednesday, and her remarks praised some of this year's Oscar candidates.
"Each and every one of you is here today because you are brilliant at what you do," she said, adding, "When I first got here 10 years ago and started seeking for a job in America, I remember being at this Golden Globes afterparty, and it was just Aziz Ansari and me." We tallied the number of brown persons in the room, and there were just two of us. It was fantastic! We applauded each other, supported each other, and introduced ourselves to everyone else. But I'm not someone else today. Today, I am surrounded by peers, coworkers, and South Asian greatness. I'm emotional and have goosebumps. I haven't been going anyplace, but I needed to come here tonight.
Priyanka has kept a low profile after giving birth to her first child with husband Nick Jonas through a surrogate in January. In a statement at the time, the couple said, "We are pleased to confirm that we have welcomed a baby via surrogate." We politely want privacy during this important time so that we can concentrate on our family."
With a prominent role in the now-canceled ABC miniseries Quantico, Priyanka made her Hollywood debut. She went on to portray a villainous part in Baywatch and a number of minor roles in subsequent films. She was most recently featured as the adult Sati in The Matrix Resurrections, and she will next be seen as the lead in the love drama Text for You. She is also a part of the ambitious Amazon Prime program.
