After viewing Adipurush, Sunil Lahri, who performed Laxman Ramanand Sagar's Ramayana, recounts the audience's reaction: "Why did I watch the movie?"
Sunil Lahri, who portrayed Laxman in Ramanand Sagar's "Ramayan," commented on the ongoing controversy surrounding the Prabhas and Kriti Sanon-starring film "Adipurush" on Wednesday.
Sunils stated, exclusively to ANI, "I have seen the movie. After watching the movie, I'm quite disappointed. Why did I go to see the movie was the question that entered my thoughts. The image did not appeal to me at all.
There are just two aspects of the movie that I can say I enjoyed: the cinematography and the instrumental music. Except from these two things, the movie utterly let me down.
"When I first saw the picture, I wasn't sure how to feel about it. Even the folks seated next to me in the theatre were unhappy with the film, putting myself aside since I portrayed a part in the Ramayana. Let's get up and go for a walk, the two women sat there whispering to one another. What absurdity are we seeing? The other woman said, "Let's at least see the visual consequences," to that. What are they exhibiting in the name of the Ramayana, a man sitting next to me asked his acquaintance, he continued.
Sunil continued, "This movie isn't even contemporary. What perspective is it modern? If characters have tattoos, does that make a movie more contemporary? Or is it the modern hairdo?"
Said he, "Nothing about the movie made sense, not even the characters or the way it was done. I'm not sure who the movie was intended for. Hanuman-ji was forced to speak in street slang. Iron is pictured being beaten by Ravan. Is he an ironworker?"
He continued, "This movie met a lot of my expectations. Since it had received so much attention, I had thought that watching it would be enjoyable. When the media contacted me, I replied that I wouldn't make a statement until I had watched the movie. After watching the movie, I was at a loss for words."
Prabhas plays Lord Ram in the Om Raut-directed film "Adipurush," which also stars Kriti Sanon as Goddess Sita, Sunny Singh as Laxman, and Saif Ali Khan as Ravan.
