Jamie Spears, the pop star’s father, has exclusive control of his daughter’s $60 million inheritance thanks to a court-appointed conservatorship he established in 2008.

Britney Spears announced on Saturday that she will not perform again while her father holds control of her business, adding that the 13-year conservatorship has “killed my dreams.”

Her words, which she made in a lengthy Instagram post, were the latest in a series of impassioned public statements regarding the conservatorship over her personal and financial affairs, which she has pleaded to be lifted.

The Piece of Me singer said, “I’m not going to be performing on any stages anytime soon with my dad controlling what I wear, say, do, or think.”

“I’d rather post YES videos from my living room than from the stage in Vegas… I’m not putting on heavy makeup and trying to get back on stage after years of not being able to perform the real deal with remixes of my songs,” she continued.

Spears, 39, hasn’t performed in front of an audience since late 2018 when she wrapped up a world tour and a prolonged residency in Las Vegas.

Spears hired a new lawyer this week to help her in her fight to terminate the conservatorship, which she describes as oppressive.

On Saturday, she wrote, “This conservatorship destroyed my dreams… now all I have is hope, and hope is the only thing in this world that is extremely hard to kill.”

“I didn’t appreciate how the films brought up humiliating prior events… She said, “I’m totally over all of that and have been for a long time.”

Framing Britney Spears, one of the documentaries, drew more attention to the conservatorship and increased popular sympathy for Spears. It was nominated for two Emmy awards this week.

Spears has yet to make a formal request to dissolve the conservatorship with her counsel. The next court date in Los Angeles is September 29.
