"Change Ahmedabad To...": KTR's Reaction To Hyderabad Name-Change Rumors

Hyderabad: A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi referred to Hyderabad as "Bhagyanagar," Telangana Minister KT Rama Rao responded sharply to a BJP representative discussing a name change if the party wins power in the state.

"Why don't you first rename Ahmedabad Adanibad? By the way, who is this Jhumla Jeevi? "Mr. Rao, or KTR, responded to statements made by BJP leader Raghubar Das by mentioning PM Modi's home state of Gujarat and billionaire Gautam Adani.

On Sunday, PM Modi told a BJP leadership meeting in Hyderabad that Sardar Patel, the independence warrior icon, created the word "Ek Bharat" in "Bhagyanagar." The remarks fueled suspicion that a name change was on the way.

Several BJP officials, as well as the RSS, or Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, have campaigned for the renaming of Telangana's capital to Bhagyanagar.

Yogi Adityanath, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, who campaigned for BJP candidates in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) election in 2020, asked supporters to vote for the party "to change Hyderabad into Bhagyanagar."

KTR was explicitly replying to BJP leader Raghubar Das's statements on Friday on renaming Hyderabad.

This is due to the government's belief in dynastic politics and focusing solely on the family. They are unconcerned with the well-being of the people of Telangana.
