HYDERABAD: According to government data, the number of Covid-19 instances recorded in Hyderabad in the last 48 hours has more than doubled. The number of cases grew from 30 on Monday to 61 on Wednesday.

According to the Telangana health department, 75 new cases were registered across the state on Wednesday, up from 42 instances on Monday.

Meanwhile, the number of active cases in the state – Covid-19 patients in hospitals or at home — increased to 481 on Wednesday, up from 416 the day before.

The rise in cases follows the discovery in the state of the BA.4, and BA.5 lineages of the Omicron form of Coronavirus.
The highly infectious and virulent BA.2 sub-variant of the Omicron version of the virus drove the second wave of Covid-19 in Telangana.

The BA.4, and BA.5 lineages are thought to be able to spread considerably more quickly among people, but physicians say the symptoms so far have been modest, and there isn't much reason to be concerned.
