KT Rama Rao, the working president and minister of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), slammed Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for the continuing rise in fuel prices.

"Chinese torture should only be read in literature!" This 12th straight 80 paisa Fuel Price Hike in 14 days surpasses any pain and sets a new record."

The TRS minister, who also happens to be the son of Chief Minister KCR, questioned why Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman was hesitant to debate crude oil prices in parliament.

Telangana has the country's second-highest petroleum VAT (35.2 percent). "To those who rave about how states may lower state taxes," the minister remarked, "in Telangana, we have not increased VAT in the last 7 years (2015 Jan)."

He also urged an end to the "Indiscriminate Cesses imposed by the NDA Government, which will reduce fuel prices by at least 30%."

In Hyderabad, petrol is priced at Rs 117.23 per litre, while diesel is priced at Rs 103.32 per litre. Petrol costs 119.75 rupees per litre in Adilabad.
