After a dengue-infected inmate dies, a scuffle breaks out in UP jail, leaving one person dead and 30 cops injured.
Following the death of another guy due to dengue fever, a prisoner was allegedly slain and over 30 police officers were hurt in a brawl at a district jail here on Sunday. After hearing about the death of an inmate, Sandeep Yadav, in Saifai Medical College due to dengue fever, the inmates allegedly threw stones at police officers and set fire to the jail.
According to the authorities, another prisoner, Shivam, who died later, was also suffering from a disease and died while being transported to the hospital on Sunday. Shivam, however, claimed in a rumored video that circulated on social media before his death that he had been shot.
The incident occurred on Sunday morning when inmates began throwing stones at police officers after learning of Yadav's death, who had been hospitalized at Saifai Medical College a few days prior due to dengue fever. Later in the afternoon, a video reportedly showing Shivam alleging he was struck by a bullet fired by the jailor while attempting to close the barrack gates surfaced. The district jail administrators requested a police force around 8.45 a.m. When senior officials arrived at the jail, they discovered that Sandeep Yadav, who had been serving a life sentence in a dowry case since 2012, had contracted dengue fever on November 5. He was sent to Saifai Medical College, where he passed away the day before yesterday. When the convicts were offered tea at 8.30 a.m. today, they attacked the deputy jailor.
"There was stone pelting and arson in the barracks as a result, which was carried out by inmates with a criminal mindset. The situation was then brought under control by the police force. Thirty police officers were hurt in the incident, and the deputy jailor was also attacked by the inmates "Earlier in the day, Superintendent of Police Ashok Kumar Meena told reporters. After the inmates set fire to the facility, the fire department was dispatched. According to officials, a large police force was sent to contain the scene. When reached by PTI, Director General Jail Anand Kumar said, "An administrative investigation is being carried out by the DIG Jail. Since an inmate died in the incident, a judicial investigation will be conducted in accordance with the CrPC." The guilty will be punished after an investigation, according to District Magistrate Sanjay Kumar Singh. Deputy Inspector General (Prisons) VP Tripathi arrived at the jail in the evening and stated that the matter would be thoroughly examined and that those found guilty would face legal action.
