Coochbehar: According to sources this morning, a paramilitary man in West Bengal passed away after slipping and falling in the polling station's lavatory. The event happened at one of the polling places for today's elections in Mathabhanga, Coochbehar.
The CRPF officers were discovered dead shortly before the polls started. After being taken to the hospital, the medical staff pronounced him dead.

The hospital sources cited early evidence that he had slipped and fallen in the loo, resulting in a head injury.
The autopsy will be conducted today, and although there is no suspicion of any criminal activity, the true cause of his death can be determined.

Under strict security, Coochbehar's voting process started this morning. While the Trinamool has put forward Jagadish Basunia to challenge the Union Minister, the BJP has chosen to retain existing MP Nisith Pramanik from this seat.

Coochbehar, a well-known seat in North Bengal, witnessed fighting during the state elections in 2021. Following a shoot-out with security personnel outside a Sitalkuchi polling place that claimed four lives, the Election Commission ceased the polls.

In addition, elections are being held today in Bengal for the seats of Jalpaiguri and Alipurduars, both of which the BJP won in 2019. At that time, the BJP secured 18 seats in West Bengal, while the ruling Trinamool secured a total of 22 seats.
