Delhi BJP Files Lawsuit Against Atishi, AAP, After She Alleges Offer To Change
New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and minister Atishi received a defamation notice from the Delhi branch of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after she claimed that the BJP had approached her to get her to cross over. Virendra Sachdeva, the head of the Delhi BJP, informed the media today that the party has written Ms. Atishi a letter and is requesting a public apology.
"Atishi did not give proof of who, how, or when she was approached. The AAP is in a crisis in Delhi, which is why they are frustrated and making such petty accusations. However, we won't allow her to get away with it "he declared.
Ms. Atishi stated during a news conference yesterday, "The BJP has contacted me through someone very close. They claim that if I join the BJP, my political career would be saved. They've threatened to arrest me within a month by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) if I don't change over."
She also asserted that she may be imprisoned within the next few months, along with three other AAP leaders: party MLA Durgesh Pathak, MP Raghav Chadha, and minister Saurabh Bharadwaj from Delhi.
The BJP representative, she said, had told her that the ruling party had "made up its mind on crushing everyone in AAP".
"They jailed every member of the AAP leadership first. Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister, Sanjay Singh, Manish Sisodia, and Satyendra Jain have all been taken into custody. Four more AAP leaders are expected to be arrested by the BJP in the following two months. They're going to arrest Raghav Chadha, Durgesh Pathak, Saurabh Bharadwaj, and myself," she declared. Sanjay Singh will be released today after being granted bail.
Today, Mr. Sachdeva challenged the minister from Delhi to give her phone to a detective firm in order to substantiate her allegations.
The attorney for the Delhi BJP said that Atishi has received a defamation notice from the party asking her to retract her remarks, calling them "false, defamatory, and concocted." The attorney threatened further legal action if she was unable to substantiate her allegation.
