According to the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, Touseef Ali Farouqui, a fourth-year B Tech student in the Biosciences department, was taken into custody on March 24. He is being held by the police.

"He was in Delhi with my wife, but I live in Siwan, Bihar." Asmat Ali Farouqui, the father of the student, told reporters outside the court where his son was taken for a formality, "My son had told her about not continuing with his studies as he had other plans."

When his police remand expires on Wednesday, he will appear in court.

The senior Farouqui stated, "There was definitely something that his mother knew about but kept that hidden from the others."

His spouse did not communicate with the media despite attending the court as well.

According to the student's father, he was prevented from speaking with his son during the day by the police.

After travelling to the police station where he was being held on Friday, his parents came to see him the next day.

About what happened at the meeting, his father remained silent.

The elder Farouqui refuted rumours that he and his spouse were divorcing, stating that he resided in Bihar to tend to his farmland.

Under many provisions of the Indian Penal Code and UAPA, the accused was taken into custody on March 23 at Hajo in the Kamrup district and was taken into custody the next day.

Inspector General Parthasarathi Mahanta of the Assam authorities's Special Task Force (STF) had previously stated that he was detained after authorities discovered solid proof of his connections to ISIS during questioning.

Three days after ISIS India chief Haris Farooqi, also known as Harish Ajmal Farukhi, and his accomplice Anurag Singh, also known as Rehan, were taken into custody in the Dhubri district following their crossing from Bangladesh, the student was placed under arrest.

Reporters were informed by STF Additional Superintendent of Police Kalyan Kumar Pathak that the student had written an email claiming he was headed to join ISIS.

A black flag "apparently similar to that of ISIS" was discovered in his dorm room and has been forwarded to specialist organisations that deal with banned groups for verification.
