IMD issues a flood warning and power outage alert for Cyclone Biparjoy.

In light of the extremely severe cyclonic storm Biparjoy, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a storm surge warning for Gujarat's coastal regions, stating that it is expected to inundate the low-lying sections of the Kachchh, Devbhumi Dwarka, Porbandar, Jamnagar, and Morbi districts. Biparjoy diminished in strength to become a very severe cyclone, but scientists warned that it may pick up speed again and unleash enormous storm surges that would wreak havoc in Gujarat.

Substantial harm is anticipated
The Met department warned that complete destruction of thatched houses and significant damage to kutcha houses are expected in the districts of Kachchh, Devbhumi Dwarka, Porbandar, Jamnagar, Morbi, Junagarh, and Rajkot as Biparjoy gets ready to make landfall between Gujarat's Mandvi and Pakistan's port city of Karachi on June 15. In these regions, the extremely powerful cyclonic storm has the potential to uproot power and communication poles, interfere with railroads, and harm orchards, plantations, and standing crops.

Cyclone "Biparjoy" (pronounce "Biporjoy") was centred over the Northeast Arabian Sea about 290 kilometres southwest of Gujarat's Jakhau Port, 300 kilometres west-southwest of Devbhumi Dwarka, 310 kilometres west-southwest of Naliya, 350 kilometres west of Porbandar, and 370 kilometres south-southwest of Karachi, Pakistan. On the evening of June 15 the extremely severe cyclonic storm, with a maximum sustained wind speed of 125-135 kmph gusting to 150 kmph, is expected to move almost north-northeastwards and cross the Saurashtra and Kutch and adjacent Pakistan shores between Mandvi and Karachi near Jakhau Port.

Current updates on Cyclone Biparjoy
rain predicted
The majority of Gujarat's coastal areas are predicted to have light to moderate rainfall today, with isolated sections experiencing heavy to extremely heavy amounts. On June 15, there would likely be heavy to extremely heavy rainfall across Kachchh, Devbhumi Dwarka, and Jamnagar, as well as some isolated areas of really high rainfall. On June 15, some areas of the districts of Porbandar, Rajkot, Morbi, and Junagarh are likely to have heavy to very heavy rain, while solitary locations in the districts of Saurashtra and north Gujarat are also likely to experience severe to very heavy rain.

Many trains are cancelled
According to Western Railway, around 95 trains that pass through, originate in, or terminate in Gujarat's coastal regions would continue to be cancelled or short-terminated through June 15.
