At least 22 people were murdered and numerous others were hurt when a bus carrying them slid off a bridge in Khargone, Madhya Pradesh, today, according to state Home Minister Narottam Mishra.
In the Dasanga village of Khargone, a bus carrying 50 passengers crashed off a bridge as it travelled to Indore. Rescue efforts are being carried out by emergency personnel with the assistance of nearby locals, according to Mr. Mishra.

Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, has promised compensation for the accident victims' families in the amounts of Rs. 4 lakh, Rs. 50,000 every person injured "severe," and Rs. 25,000 per person hurt only slightly. The expenses for the injured's medical care would be covered by the administration of Chief Minister Chouhan.

The office of Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared today that the families of those who passed away would receive compensation of 2 lakh each.

The next of kin of each person killed in the bus tragedy in Khargone, Madhya Pradesh, would receive an ex-gratia payment from PMNRF of 2 lakh. The injured will receive 50,000, according to a tweet from the PMO's office.
