On April 28, the Supreme Court dismissed a criminal charge in a case of forgery and cheating against the former chief minister of Punjab, Parkash Singh Badal, and his son, Sukhbir, who is also the president of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD).

The leader of the Akali party, Parkash Singh Badal, passed away on April 25. He was 95.

The court also revoked summonses that had been issued to them by a court in Hoshiarpur, Punjab, in connection with allegations of forgery and deceit against the father-and-son team about the dual founding of the Shiromani Akali Dal.

In 2009, Hoshiarpur resident Balwant Singh Khera complained to the additional chief judicial magistrate, and that complaint led to the filing of the case. Khera charged SAD with submitting two distinct constitutions, one with the Gurdwara Election Commission (GEC) and the other without.
