Police recover 77 kg of heroin in Punjab's greatest narcotics haul of 2023, and 4 traffickers are detained.

The Punjab Police reported on Sunday that one of its largest drug busts to date resulted in the seizure of 77 kg of heroin from four suspects in a trans-border drug smuggling ring.

According to Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav, the seizure was conducted by the Counter Intelligence Wing, Ferozepur, in two different operations.

He said that three pistols had also been taken from the smugglers by police.

"One of the largest seizures of heroin in 2023: In two independent intelligence-led operations, Counter Intelligence, #Ferozepur has captured four drug dealers and seized 77 kg (41 kg + 36 kg) of heroin and three firearms "announced the DGP in a tweet.

The modules were heavily involved in Punjab's trans-border and inter-state narcotics smuggling, he continued.

In conjunction with the seizures, cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act were filed in Fazilka, and additional research is being done, according to Yadav.
