Reporters were informed by the Federation of Karnataka State Private Transport Associations on Thursday that the Shakti plan was hurting its members.

The Shakti scheme, which was introduced on June 11, entitles women who reside in Karnataka to free transport on any non-premium government buses operating there. The plan has worked well. Up until July 19, a total of 22.65 crore women utilised the facility at a cost of Rs 538.9 crore.

The federation, which is made up of 23 organisations, claimed it had written a note to the government outlining its demands and gave it a week to comply, failing which it will call for a bandh in Bengaluru on July 27.

The administration didn't answer favourably, therefore the federation said that the bandh will still take place on Thursday.
