On Thursday, July 20, 2023, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced that a landslip in Maharashtra's Raigad district has claimed at least 15 lives.

Irshalwadi hamlet in Khalapur tehsil experienced the landslip on Wednesday, July 19, at 11 p.m., according to officials.

"The Raigad landslip was estimated to have killed 15 to 20 people. According to Mr. Shinde, who hurried to the area, the rescue operations are proceeding on a war footing because to bad weather that is complicating air rescue operations.

In response to concerns that at least 100 people may be trapped, NDRF troops have hurried to the scene, the official said.

According to the official, more than 20 people who were hurt in the landslip have been sent to a hospital in Navi Mumbai.

Firefighter dies while travelling to the Raigad landslip site
An official reported that a firefighter from the Navi Mumbai civic body passed away from a heart attack while en route to assist in the rescue efforts at the scene of a landslip in Maharashtra's Raigad district.

On the night in between Wednesday and Thursday, assistant station officer Shivram Dhumne (52), of the Belapur fire station in Navi Mumbai, was his route to the location.

He had a heart attack and collapsed while attempting to climb the steep slope, according to Navi Mumbai Municipal Council (NMMC) Chief Fire Officer Shirish Aradwad.

The fire services personnel at the NMMC expressed sorrow over the occurrence.

An investigation into the death of the fire officer, according to the source, is ongoing.

An official statement from the district government stated that an emergency control room has been established at Chowk village close to the site of the landslip with the contact number - 8108195554 - for locals to reach out for any assistance.
