Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, the chief minister, announced a 37% pay increase and insurance coverage for contractors.

Almost 27,000 workers received a sizable financial respite on Wednesday as a result of the Andhra Pradesh government raising the pay of contract workers who were outsourced to the energy department.

Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, the chief minister, announced a 37% pay increase and insurance coverage for contractors. The rise brings the salary of the workers up to Rs 21,000 per month. In government departments, contract employees and outsourced personnel are paid a set wage without any additional benefits. The decision to offer group insurance in addition to the pay increase, according to the joint action committee of the Andhra Pradesh Contract and Outsourced Employees Association, is a major plus.

The special chief secretary of the power department issued an order that served as the official announcement of the choice. "The decision is expected to have a good effect on about 27,000 outsourcing workers who are employed in the electrical sector. The income of these outsourcing workers has now surpassed Rs 21,000 as a result of this considerable compensation increase, according to a statement. Also, the government has required contracting companies to offer group insurance options to their workers.
The action is anticipated to have a number of advantageous effects on outsourced workers in the power and other departments.

"This newest decision stands as a monument to the Andhra Pradesh government's determination to supporting progress, equity, and prosperity within the area," CM Reddy stated of the state's constant commitment to the welfare of its workforce.
The government raised the pay for all outsourced workers in three categories who worked for all government agencies in January 2022. For category one employees like senior accountants and data processing officers, the pay increased to Rs 21,500 per month; for category two employees like junior assistants, telephone operators, and data entry operators, it increased to Rs 18,500 per month; and for category three employees like guards and cooks, it increased to Rs 15,000 per month.
