According to India Today, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has asked the Centre for permission to use the Official Secrets Act (OSA) in the Naval data leak case, which involves the disclosure of sensitive classified information on a kilo-class submarine to unauthorized persons.

The decision was made after the CBI filed two charge sheets against seven people, including a serving commander and two retired Indian Navy officers, for allegedly leaking secret information.

According to sources, the CBI request will be reviewed by the Law and Defence Ministries, and if approved, the OSA will be used in the investigation.

The CBI filed two charge sheets against seven people this week, including a serving naval captain and two retired Indian Navy officials.

According to sources, the first charge sheet names serving Navy officer Ajit Kumar Pandey, as well as two retired commanders SJ Singh and R Singh, as defendants for allegedly leaking and transmitting the information.

According to India Today, the CBI has questioned a top Indian Navy commander as well as a defense dealer in the investigation.

Earlier this year, the CBI allegedly discovered Rs 2.40 crore in cash during searches at the home of ex-Navy commander R Singh.

In connection with this case, the CBI detained a serving Indian Navy captain, two ex-Navy officers, and two private individuals in September.

According to evidence obtained by India Today from the CBI investigation, a serving Navy commander-rank officer was leaking information to two retired officers, one of whom was a commodore-rank officer.

The operation was begun after the CBI received information from intelligence services that had been watching the actions of active and retired officers for some time.

According to sources, the serving officer was stationed in Mumbai and was apprehended there. However, the data breach occurred in Delhi.

In this case, the CBI conducted searches in 19 locations across Delhi, Noida, and Hyderabad.

During the searches, the agency discovered and seized a number of electronic devices as well as other incriminating items.

Meanwhile, the Indian Navy is undertaking an internal investigation led by a Vice Admiral to see if other leaks have occurred and how they may be stopped.

"Investigation linked to alleged administrative and commercial information leak with some unauthorized individuals has come to light and is being examined by a competent government agency," the Navy said in a statement.
