For the next four to five days, there is a likelihood of heavy to very heavy rain along the foothills of the Himalayas, specifically in Uttarakhand, northern Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, and northeast India, according to the India Meteorological Department.
The monsoon trough may shift its usual position over the next three to four days to the north or along the foothills of the Himalayas, according to IMD, which is caused by a cyclonic circulation over south Bihar.
In Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, significant precipitation is expected on Sunday, Wednesday, and Thursday, respectively. On Tuesday and Wednesday, sporadic periods of very heavy rain may affect East Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
On Sunday, there is a chance of light to moderate rain, with a few isolated areas of heavy rain, over northeast Madhya Pradesh and north Chhattisgarh. From Sunday to Tuesday, West Bengal and Sikkim are predicted to see similar weather, as will Bihar and Jharkhand from Sunday to Wednesday.
Jharkhand on Sunday, sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on Sunday and Monday, and Bihar until Tuesday are all expected to have isolated very severe rainfall. Over the next five days, light to moderate rain with sporadic heavy to very heavy downpours is expected in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, and Nagaland. On Sunday and Monday, Meghalaya is predicted to have a few isolated periods of exceptionally heavy rain.
IMD reported that between 8.30 a.m. on Saturday and 8.30 a.m. on Sunday, Meghalaya experienced heavy to very heavy rain, with isolated spells of extremely heavy rain. East Rajasthan and west Madhya Pradesh also experienced isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall, and Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Mizoram, and Arunachal Pradesh experienced isolated heavy rainfall.
The weather service predicted that over the next five days, rainfall activity will be moderate over central and peninsular India.
