For the July 1 Test match at Edgbaston against England, India has called up opener Mayank Agarwal.

Rohit Sharma, who is in isolation after testing positive for COVID-19, is still unknown to India. They haven't made any announcements on the captaincy switch, and it's believed that they won't make a decision until closer to the game while keeping an eye on Rohit's health.

If Rohit is unable to partner Shubman Gill during the Test, they could be further hindered at the top given that KL Rahul, their other regular Test opener, is already out injured.

Because there is now no requirement for quarantine in England, Mayank has been called up as a standby with the chance that he might be ready right away.

Agarwal was not included in the first selection for this Test because his most recent Test was in March against Sri Lanka.

Before last year's trip was shortened by a COVID-ordered hiatus, India had a 2-1 series advantage. The last Test in that series is expected to be at Edgbaston.
