Ravichandran Ashwin moved into the top eight of all-time Test wicket-takers with his 440th wicket on Day 3 of the pink-ball Test against Sri Lanka on Monday. When he bowled Dhananjaya de Silva in the first session, Ashwin passed renowned South African fast bowler Dale Steyn's count of 439 wickets as Sri Lanka faced a crushing defeat.

Ashwin currently has the most wickets for bowlers in the 400-club, trailing only famous West Indian pacer Courtney Walsh, who finished with 519.

Ashwin took two wickets in the first innings in the pink-ball Test and two more in the second innings before tea on Day 3.

On Monday, Ashwin took the first wicket of the day for India, dismissing Kusal Mendis, who was seeking to relieve the strain on the Sri Lankans with a quickfire fifty. Ashwin managed one to slip past, leaving Mendis perplexed.

Notably, R Ashwin only got beyond famous India all-rounder Kapil Dev's count of 434 wickets in the first Test at Mohali. Ashwin is currently the second most wicket-taker in Indian cricket history, after only Anil Kumble, who had a successful career and collected 619 wickets.
