According to reports, Tom Moody wants to take over as Team India's head coach from Ravi Shastri.

Tom Moody, the 56-year-old director of cricket for Sri Lanka and the IPL's Sunrisers Hyderabad, has professed his desire to coach the Indian team before, seeking for the top job three times in the past, notably in 2017 and 2019, but has never been considered.

According to a media report, former Australia all-rounder Tom Moody is set to apply for the high-profile role of the Indian cricket team's next head coach for the fourth time after the completion of the forthcoming T20 World Cup.

According to Foxsports.com.au, "it's known the former World Cup winner and well-traveled coach is eyeing the Indian coaching post, which is due to be vacated by (Ravi) Shastri following the forthcoming T20 World Cup."

The 56-year-old Moody, who is presently the director of cricket for Sri Lanka and the IPL's Sunrisers Hyderabad, has indicated his desire to coach the Indian team before, having applied for the top job three times in the past, notably in 2017 and 2019, but has never been considered. Shastri's contract as India's head coach is slated to expire after the T20 World Cup, and the 59-year-old has already stated that he will not seek renewal, leaving the BCCI to explore for replacements.

Moody, who led the Sunrisers to their first IPL triumph in 2016 with compatriot David Warner as captain, was their coach for seven years from 2013 to 2019. Before being named the franchise's director of cricket, he was succeeded by former England World Cup-winning coach Trevor Bayliss. Moody has previously worked as a coach in Sri Lanka.

According to the article, Warner was stripped of his captaincy earlier this season and subsequently dropped from the starting XI in the final few games due to Moody's desire to coach Team India. β€œ The Sunrisers' owners are thought to be powerful individuals in the BCCI, which could explain why Warner has been benched for the previous half-dozen matches in favor of youngsters.

"A number of other IPL franchises have approached Warner, who have been surprised by the run-scoring machine's demise," the article added.

When asked about Warner, head coach Bayliss stated that the left-handed opener was dismissed from the playing roster in order to give the younger players a chance. "We can't make the final, so we've made the choice that we want the young players to get time at the ground, around the set-up, and for this match, we've made the decision," Bayliss explained.
