In the 17th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), would MS Dhoni captain Chennai Super Kings (CSK)? After a championship-winning campaign in the prestigious event, franchise CEO Kasi Viswanathan finally spoke out about the future of the former India captain on Wednesday. In the world's richest event final on Tuesday, Dhoni's CSK team defeated Gujarat Titans (GT), matching Mumbai Indians' (MI) extraordinary feat of winning five IPL championships.

In a game that was postponed due to weather, Dhoni's CSK defeated Hardik Pandya's team to win the illustrious trophy at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Former India captain Dhoni, who has a trophy-laden career, reportedly played in the IPL 2023 with a left knee that was extensively wrapped. But the 41-year-old participated in each and every Yellow Brigade game. CSK CEO Viswanathan provided an important update regarding Dhoni's knee injury, saying that the former India captain would seek medical advice before deciding whether to continue playing for the Chennai-based team.

Twitter criticises Irfan for his "advantage to CSK" remark on the IPL 2023 Championship: "You expect CSK to chase 200 in 15 overs?"

"It is true that Dhoni would seek medical advice regarding the damage to his left knee and make an informed decision. If surgery is recommended, it can only be determined once the reports are out, and it will entirely be his decision "According to a statement made by Viswanathan, PTI.

When questioned about the likelihood that Dhoni would decide not to play for CSK next season, which might possibly increase Chennai's auction budget, Viswanathan explained that the former India captain is free to make a decision on his future with the team. "Since we haven't arrived at that point, we aren't even thinking along those lines. Dhoni will make the final decision. But I can assure you that at CSK, we haven't given those ideas any thought "said Viswanathan.

On Tuesday, Dhoni made his 250th IPL appearance. During the championship game between CSK and GT at the Narendra Modi Stadium, he became the first Indian to reach 300 dismissals. The former captain of India also shared the distinction of co-most successful captain after leading CSK to their fifth title after defeating Gujarat Titans by a margin of five wickets. Dhoni also disclaimed any interest in leading CSK in the 2024 campaign after the game. "While there were no festivities, he is really thrilled. Only from Ahmedabad did the players scatter for their separate destinations. If you've seen CSK, you know that we don't do a lot of celebrating "a CSK representative said.
