ENG VS AUS The Ashes 2023, Day 2 of the First Test: AUS: 14-0 (4) CURRENT CRICKET STATISTICS: How Will Australia, the current world champions, Respond To England's Bazball?

Edgbaston unquestionably supplied the flat, batting-friendly pitches that Stokes had requested. It's challenging to think of a Test match in England where the pitch provided such little support on the first day. Australia should be happy with its performance in light of this. It's odd, though, that England, adhering to their strategy, proclaimed their innings before even reaching the 400-run threshold. Given that Root is still unbeaten in the middle and is putting on an outstanding performance for his 30th Test century, this choice will undoubtedly generate a lot of discussion.

At 172/5, England was in a grave predicament, but Root and Bairstow worked together to get them out of it. After tea, Bairstow unleashed his shots while taking measured chances. Lyon, who stood out as the star bowler with a four-wicket haul, still turned up to be Australia's saviour. Even Hazlewood made a remarkable recovery. Mark Wood's absence from the England bowling attack on what seems to be a sluggish pitch has presented a huge obstacle. Let's hold off on making any decisions, though, until both teams have had an opportunity to bowl on it.

England scored an amazing 393, ranking as the second-highest score by any team, in Birmingham on the first day of the first Ashes Test since World War II. England's 407 total, also in the Edgbaston stadium in 2005, was the only team to reach a greater score.

First Test Day 2 LIVE: Bazball, ENG vs AUS
The first day of the series for England was an exhilarating rollercoaster ride. Their aggressive batting style was demonstrated by Zak Crawley's first-ball four off Pat Cummins. The Ashes started with a first-ball four for the first time in 29 years, breaking a record set by Michael Slater in 1994. Crawley's accomplishment also made him the first player to begin an Ashes Test match with a four since Slater in 2001, a noteworthy accomplishment.

Day 2 LIVE of the first test between ENG and AUS: Pietersen on Stokes' leadership
"It is not, in my opinion, how his captaincy operates (in and out fields from Stokes). Given that we did not see much of it this evening, the question is challenging to address. And I played in that Test match with you guys last year against India; the pitch did improve for batting, and I believe that tomorrow (Saturday) would be the most picturesque day. Therefore, I am... I disagreed with the assertion."

LIVE: Jonny Bairstow at the stumps on Day 1 of the first test between ENG and AUS
"After playing the game for as long as we have, we are aware that a 20-minute time period for an opening pair is not ideal. It might seem a little niggly. It's a bit of a shot to nothing because there may be a miraculous ball or a loose shot there. We'll return with a ball that has played four overs, a new bowling lineup, and a team that is eager to take on the challenge."

Day 2 of the first test between ENG and AUS is live. Hussain is the top batsman.
"Joe Root, Steve Smith, and Marnus Labuschagne, three of the greatest hitters in the history of cricket, are participating in this series. I apologise for being undecided, but I believe all three of them will receive runs."

Day 2 LIVE of the first test between ENG and AUS: Pat Cummins on David Warner
"He must have given it a lot of thought over the past few years in the hopes of getting another chance. All of Davey's plans will be in place. Davey is eager to get out there and get another chance at it, so I'm sure you'll see him acting a little more aggressively than you did in 2019."

Ashwin Was the Reason Broad Was Selected For The First Test, ENG vs AUS First Test Day 2 LIVE
"It's just another incident like when (Indian Ravichandran) Ashwin played me. Over the years, "Broady" has consistently delivered amazing performances. It's very difficult to see past someone like that no matter what the Ashes bring. It's quite difficult to ignore Jimmy and "Robbo," who has performed superbly the past year under all circumstances. I'm delighted with the staff that we ultimately chose."
