With the wickets of Travis Head and Steve Smith falling to Ravindra Jadeja near the end of the day, Australia finished Day 3 with a lead of 296 runs over India, who had fallen well behind.

India just lost one wicket in the first session thanks to the efforts of Ajinkya Rahane and Shardul Thakur. They erected

Rahane died shortly after play resumed because of Green's spectacular catch of Cummins. He had 89 out of 129 balls.

Thakur reached his half-century before collapsing as well. In response to his 51 from 109 balls, India was shut down for 296.

David Warner was the first wicket that Mohammed Siraj gave India. Usman Khawaja was later dismissed by Umesh Yadav early in the third session, followed by Smith and Head being caught by Jadeja. Australia scored 123/4 to close the day.
