Team India's newly-appointed T20I captain, Rohit Sharma, is making headlines on social media over a tweet he wrote in 2012. The 9-year-old tweet surfaced during India's first Twenty20 International match against New Zealand on Wednesday. Rohit can be seen in a tweet that has since gone viral on the microblogging platform alerting supporters about his "additional duty" of leading the "side" for the first time in Jaipur. Obviously, Rohit was not alluding to being the captain of Team India at the moment, as MS Dhoni was. Rohit's remark appeared to be in response to his appointment as captain of the Mumbai Ranji Trophy side.

In 2012, Rohit captained Mumbai in his debut Ranji Trophy match. The match was played in Jaipur's KL Saini Stadium, where Rohit also made his debut as Team India's regular T20I skipper on Wednesday. In the game, Rohit had scored 79 runs. Suryakumar Yadav was also on the team and had two wickets to his name. Following the emergence of Rohit's old message on Wednesday, netizens began to compare him to England pacer Jofra Archer, whose tweets are frequently repeated by cricket fans whenever there is a link to a current event. Here's how the internet reacted to Rohit's previous tweet.

Rohit Sharma blasted an incredible 36-ball 48 runs to put India in a dominating position while pursuing a 165-run mark against New Zealand. Five boundaries and two maximums were included in Rohit's knock. Earlier in the game, Rohit won the toss and chose to bat against the Kiwis. Martin Guptill and Mark Chapman hit 70 and 63 runs, respectively, to help New Zealand reach 164/6 in 20 overs.

In response, Rohit Sharma's team chased down the mark in 19.4 overs. Suryakumar Yadav led the way for India, scoring 62 off 40 balls. KL Rahul contributed at the top as well, scoring 15 off 14 balls. Rishabh Pant completed the game for his team, remaining unbeaten on 17 off 17 balls. Suryakumar Yadav was named player of the match for his outstanding batting performance.
