T20 World Cup: Never play to silence criticism, says David Warner; it's all about putting pressure on bowlers.
1. Warner said the shot that got him out against India was the identical one he used for his first boundary on Thursday.
2. He stated that all he wanted to do was get Australia off to a solid start in their pursuit.
3. In his 42-ball 65 against Sri Lanka, Warner smashed ten fours.
David Warner, Australia's opening batsman, claimed he was unconcerned with critics and merely wanted to put the Sri Lankan bowlers under strain. Warner hit 65 off 42 balls for his first half-century in T20 cricket since April, overcoming a run of poor form that saw him booted from the SunRisers Hyderabad side for this year's Indian Premier League.
Warner was dismissed for 14 runs against South Africa after scoring a duck and one run in Australia's two warm-up games. On Thursday, he hit his first boundary off Sri Lanka's mystery spinner Maheesh Theekshana, and he stated it was the identical shot that cost him his wicket in Australia's first warm-up match against Ravichandran Ashwin.
After Australia's seven-wicket victory over Sri Lanka, Warner commented, "I got chastised when I got out to Ashwin in the practice game trying the same stroke." "We know which bowlers are bowling what, where the fields are, and how to put pressure on them." If it's going to come off, it's going to come off.
"They've certainly got their carrom ball to come straight down the line when they're coming over the wicket." Going with the spin is actually a low-risk shot for me, and because you only have two (fielders) out to protect, you have to trust yourself. I think it's a good shot. "You have to put pressure on the ball, and that's how I start my innings against spin," he explained.
Before the game, Warner stated he couldn't understand all the buzz about his form because he hadn't played much cricket this year. He stated that all he wanted to do was get Australia off to a solid start in their pursuit of the 155-point mark.
"Obviously, I had to start again tonight," Warner remarked. "Everyone was commenting about my shape, which I assured them was not a concern of mine. It was all about getting out there and making a good first impression. All we're attempting is to put pressure on the bowlers "he stated
"It felt amazing to get out there in the middle and run between the wickets for a while." It's the little things like that that keep your mind going. Obviously, we haven't played much cricket in the last six to twelve months, so I haven't been in such situations very often. It's not so much about me getting runs as it is about getting us off to a strong start, which we did.
"Are you trying to silence the critics?" No way, no how. That is the sporting world. "You have to ride the highs and lows, and you have to stay confident, maintain a grin on your face, and never let it get to you," he said.
