Prithvi Shaw, an out-of-favor Indian batsman, grabbed attention after he scored a double century in an English County One-Day tournament. Shaw lost his touch following the disappointing tour of Australia in 2020–21. He was once dubbed the "next Sachin Tendulkar" from Mumbai because of his wealth of batting talent and similar height to the legendary Indian batsman. Shaw lost his position in the Indian side as a result of his lack of form and fitness. The cricketer did not benefit from the rise in Shubman Gill's stock during that time.

Indian team was effectively guided by Shaw at the U19 World Cup. In the opening frame of his first Test, he smashed a century. Everything was going smoothly for Shaw until the rough patch arrived.

Shaw also had a miserable IPL 2023. He was removed from the starting XI by head coach Ricky Ponting after failing in his first seven innings for the Delhi Capitals. In the most recent battle, he did return to crush 54, but it was too late because DC had already been eliminated.

Shaw's score of 244 runs in only 153 balls has made people debate about him among fans and prompted selectors to reconsider their decision. Several people complimented Shaw for his amazing knock, while some made fun of him for his physical flaws. Over the past couple of years, Shaw has gained some weight. It is unclear whether the weight gain is related to a health issue. But, the abuse he is facing online is unjustified.

Ankur Warikoo, a motivational speaker and social media influencer, also made fun of Shaw but afterwards issued an apology. Bet his mother thinks "patla ho gaya hai," Warikoo had tweeted. This was in response to a different user of X (formerly Twitter) who had fat-shamed Shaw. A few hours later, Warikoo apologised for making fun of Shaw and said he had learned from his error.

Shaw lost his mother when he was 4 years old, according to Warikoo, making his tweet ridiculing him even more cruel and something he is not proud of.

In his international career, Shaw has participated in 5 Tests, 6 ODIs, and 1 T20I match. He has scored 189 runs in ODIs and 399 runs in Tests, but he hasn't been able to start a T20Is scoring streak. Shaw had disclosed his mental health issues in an interview with Cricbuzz. Shaw had also talked about going through his roughest period of his career alone and without any friends.
