U Mumba defeated Bulls in the Pro Kabaddi League's season 8 opener.
U Mumba upset Bengaluru Bulls 46-30 in the Pro Kabaddi League season opener on Wednesday, and Abhishek Singh was the standout. In a statement victory by the season 2 champions, the U Mumba raider clinched a Super 10 (19 points) and was ably assisted by the team's defence.
Bengaluru Bulls were missing a competent third raider to back Chandran Ranjit and Pawan, hence Pawan Sehrawat had a poor day. Due to the COVID-19 danger, there were no spectators in the stadium, but that didn't detract from the match's intensity.
Harendra Kumar made a successful tackle on "high-flyer" Pawan Sehrawat during the season's first raid. The Mumbai team dominated the first few minutes, with Abhishek Singh scoring several vital raid points.
Fazel Atrachali, Mumbai's left corner captain, had nothing to do as his defenders Harendra and Ashish Sangwan made it difficult for the Bulls raiders to score. In the eighth minute, U Mumba forced the game's first ALL OUT and took a 6-point lead (11-5).
The Bulls, the season 6 champions, were not about to let Mumbai take a comfortable lead. The Bulls were able to narrow the margin thanks to two Super Raids (3 or more points) from Chandran Ranjit, but Bengaluru were unable to inflict an ALL OUT when Abhishek Singh revived his team with a 4-point Super Raid.
In the process, the raider earned a Super 10 (10 or more points). U Mumba led Bulls by seven points at the halftime break (24-17).
The lack of do-or-die raids in the first half was a testament to the fast-paced nature of the game. After only one tackle point in the first half, the Bulls hauled in Amit Sheoran.
But that didn't stop U Mumba from inflicting another ALL OUT just a minute after the game restarted. Ajith Kumar of U Mumba and the rest of the defenders made sure the Bulls never closed the points advantage.
With five minutes remaining in the game, U Mumba's "Sultan" Fazel Atrachali produced a Super Tackle, and Ajith Kumar followed it up with a three-point Super Raid. With three minutes left in the game, U Mumba fetched another ALL OUT to seal the victory.
