Virat Kohli is known as "the king without a throne."

Anger, disdain, and a goodbye remark from Kohli on his final day as RCB captain: 'I gave my all... don't know the response.'

Virat Kohli limped from cover, head down and glum, just as the ball was jammed out for the winning run. He jolted up from his reverie to shake hands with the players, then moved slowly towards the stumps, flicking the LED-lit bail off its perch. On his final encounter as captain of the Royal Challengers Bangalore, the lights went out both metaphorically and physically. E-saala is also without a cup.

On Kohli's final day as RCB captain, what would the Kohli-cam reveal? Anger, disdain, despair, nerve-racking jubilation, the rare resigned shrug-at-fate tranquility, an ugly disagreement with an umpire, a sombre conversation towards the conclusion about how he tried his hardest as captain, and a mentor-talk with Shubman Gill before the cameras eventually turned away from his gloomy night

After a promising start, Kohli's day was marred by a series of missteps. He made the strategic choice to take singles from Kolkata Knight Riders' spinners and leave the batting to Srikar Bharat, who laboured to a 16-ball 9-run performance. Kohli eventually lost his stumps when attempting to hit Sunil Narine, and his team was reduced to a sub-par total.

When he led the squad into the field, his instruction to each fielder seemed to be to attempt to wear out the ball as quickly as possible by throwing it on the ground whenever possible. He appeared to be following in the footsteps of KKR by unleashing his spinners on a sluggish ground. Instead, he never used Shahbaz Ahmed, a left-arm spinner.

Kohli called out AB de Villiers and Glen Maxwell for a lengthy conversation just before the chase's 12th over. He brought on Dan Christian for a bowl, although it's unclear if he agreed with them or overruled them. In the game-winning over, Narine hit three consecutive sixes with his bat.

In the interim, Kohli had an enraged exchange with umpire Virender Sharma, during which he hurled the ball to the ground in disgust and afterward witnessed his teammates drop catches. Before the light finally blew out of his campaign, he sighed, shook his head, and yelled in joy.

Kohli's emotions erupted in the seventh over of the chase, delivered by Yuzvendra Chahal, and he clashed with Sharma. Chahal's LBW plea against Rahul Tripathi was denied by the umpire. Scenes erupted when the third umpire agreed with Kohli. Kohli and Sharma exchanged words, and Kohli even threw the ball down in frustration. He took it up and carried on the conversation till the new batsman came.

Captains and umpires have had their feuds in the past. MS Dhoni once marched from the dugout to the playing field in an attempt to confront an umpire. Sharma was clearly having a difficult night; not only was he dismissed, but he also had a handful of other dismissals during RCB's innings that went against Kohli's squad. Sharma rushed briskly up to Kohli at the end of the Chahal and motioned him to join in for another tete-a-tete. Sharma spoke for the longest time this time, and at the conclusion, Kohli had a wry look on his face. When the Fair Play table showed RCB at the bottom not long after, Sunil Gavaskar went on television to say that it wasn't surprising after this game.
