In connection with the early Sunday morning automobile explosion in front of the Sangameswarar temple in Kottaimedu, Coimbatore, the police have detained five people.

The five males are believed to be friends of Jameesha Mubin (29), who died in the blast, according to a senior police officer.

The five individuals have been identified as Muhammad Thalka (age 25), Muhammad Azharudheen (age 23) of Ukkadam, Muhammad Riyas (age 27), Firoz Ismail (age 27), and Muhammad Nawaz Ismail (age 27), all of them are from G. M. Nagar, a nearby community.

They were taken into custody late on Monday.

The police discovered a security camera image depicting Mubin and a few others removing a large object wrapped in a white bag from the former's home on HMPR Street in Kottaimedu at 11.30 p.m. on Saturday while conducting their investigation into the explosion. Those detained included people who were visible in the CCTV footage.

According to reports, the suspects admitted to the police that they were assisting Mubin with house switching.

According to reliable sources, Mr. Thalka was also involved in organising the car Mubin was driving when it detonated in front of the shrine on Sunday at around 4 a.m. "Due to an LPG cylinder explosion," it was said.

Later that day, during a search of Mubin's home, explosive-making ingredients such as potassium nitrate, aluminium powder, sulphur, and charcoal were seized.
