As the Russian invasion continues, the White House has offered an additional $500 million in direct help to Ukraine.

During a 55-minute phone chat with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Wednesday, US Vice President Joe Biden assured him that more aid was on the way.

According to the White House, the leaders also discussed security help that has already been sent to Ukraine and the impact that armament has had on the fight.

Zelesnkyy has asked President Biden and other Western allies to assist Ukraine with combat planes.

The US and other NATO countries have so far refused to comply with that proposal, fearing that it might lead to Russia expanding the conflict beyond Ukraine's borders.

Prior to the $500 million aid declaration on Wednesday, the Biden administration has delivered Ukraine about $2 billion in humanitarian and security help since the conflict began last month.

All of this is part of the $13.6 billion in funding for Ukraine that Congress approved earlier this month as part of a larger spending measure.
